Depth Drop 2nd to 4th Position
Instructions
Stand on a box or step.
Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart.
Step off the box or step down into the drop.
Land with your feet wider than hip-width apart and turned.
Bend your knees into a controlled plié-like landing.
From that 2nd-position landing, do a small quick hop.
Land in 4th position on the balls of your feet.
Bend through the knees slightly to absorb the landing while staying lifted.
Hold your balance briefly, then reset and repeat.
Common Compensations
Do not jump up before the depth drop; just step off and react to the landing.
Do not let the knees collapse inward.
Do not slam the heels down if you are meant to stay on the balls of your feet.
Do not lose turnout or foot placement during the transition to 4th.
Do not let your chest collapse forward.
Do not rush so much that the landing becomes noisy or uncontrolled.
Extra Info
You should feel your calves, feet/ankles, quads, and glutes working.
You should feel a quick, elastic reaction from the floor.
You should not feel sharp pain in the feet, ankles, knees, or hips.
