Leap to Single Leg Balance

Instructions

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart.

  2. Push off one foot and leap forward.

  3. Land on the opposite leg.

  4. Bend the landing knee slightly to absorb the force.

  5. Keep the non-landing leg off the ground so you finish in a single-leg balance.

  6. Hold the balance briefly with control.

  7. Reset and repeat on the same side or alternate sides.

Common Compensations

  • Do not let the knee cave inward.

  • Do not let your hip drop too much on the standing side.

  • Do not land stiff-legged.

  • Do not lean your torso too far forward.

  • Do not make the leap so large that you cannot control the balance.

Extra Info

  • You should feel your glutes, quad, calf, and ankle stabilizers working.

  • You should feel a controlled forward landing followed by steady balance.

  • You should not feel sharp pain in the knee, ankle, hip, or back.
